ODT’s Most-Read Stories This Week—Feb. 5

Corporate catfights can be riveting (depending, of course, on the accusations involved) and the squabble between Globus Medical and Medtronic is proving to be no exception.

The pair’s dispute drove the bulk of ODT website traffic this past week, as Globus filed suit in Pennsylvania’s Eastern District Court against Medtronic. The lawsuit accuses Medtronic and four former Globus sales representatives in San Antonio, Texas, to “lift out” Globus’ sales team in that location and carrying out a long-planned conspiracy to illegally steal business. The complaint also accuses one of the defendants of engaging in other schemes while working for Globus to redirect business to other customers for Medtronic’s benefit at Globus’ expense. “…instead of fairly building a team to compete in the San Antonio market, Medtronic decided it would be easier to steal a Globus team, and induce them to violate their NCNDAs by using Globus’s confidential information and trading on the goodwill Globus had developed in the San Antonio Territory for its own benefit, and to the detriment of Globus,” the lawsuit states.

Medtronic has not responded to the allegations in court.

In addition to the Globus-Medtronic scuffle, ODT website viewers also accessed news of recent FDA approvals and product launches. The FDA greenlighted Bone Solutions Inc.’s spinal magnesium-based bone void filler and Exactech’s Equinoxe planning app. The latest version of the Equinoxe planning app allows pre-operative planning of humeral implant options to model best fit for unique anatomies. Shoulder range of motion and impingement can be accessed using the tool, and it offers visual enhancements to boost clarity and ease of use.

Website traffic also was driven by the European debut of Stryker’s Tornier shoulder arthroplasty franchise and first Tornier product, the Perform humeral stem. The humeral stem is used in anatomic, reverse, and shoulder hemiarthroplasty; it can also be converted from anatomic to reverse shoulder prosthesis in revision cases.
